On Monday we begin a new normal for educating students. I recently announced that Duncanville ISD is closed indefinitely for the health and safety of our community. We will evaluate the status of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic regularly to determine the status of our closure. In the meantime, we’ve developed a three-phase process to continue educating students.

On Monday we begin a new normal for educating students. I recently announced that Duncanville ISD is closed indefinitely for the health and safety of our community. We will evaluate the status of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic regularly to determine the status of our closure. In the meantime, we’ve developed a three-phase process to continue educating students.
In Phase One (March 12-23) we created a Learning At Home website, which offers digital learning tools for students in all grades. It also provides options for offline academic experiences for our elementary and intermediate students. I recognize that everyone does not have internet access. To address this, we are developing additional options for students without online access.
Next week we begin Phase Two (March 23-April 3) as the majority of our employees begin working in a virtual environment. Using the Learning At Home website, we are providing parents with a way to keep learning going with the support of our teachers. Teachers will maintain office hours of 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can expect to hear more details from principals and teachers next week.
In phase two, teachers and staff will support in-home instruction and develop additional at-home resources. Our teams will also be evaluating technology needs and availability.
If the school closure extends into April, we’ll go into Phase Three (April 6 – ongoing) where the district continues development of at-home learning lessons. Parents will be notified of lesson plans through the district and campus emails and voice calls.
Many of you are home with your families and practicing social distancing, similar to the many of our district employees. Learning will not look the same as when students are in class. I encourage you to be flexible and practice a little patience.
This is an unprecedented situation but I know we’re all up to the challenge. Thank you.
