Message from the Superintendent: Mask Mandate to Expire June 5 with Governor's Executive Order
Dr. Marc Smith

Duncanville ISD family,

We are aware of the governor’s announcement today prohibiting public schools from requiring face coverings or masks be worn after Friday, June 4. Over the next two weeks, our school district will continue with our current safety procedures of requiring face masks. However, starting June 5, Duncanville ISD will comply with the governor’s executive order and we will no longer mandate masks. Instead we will strongly encourage the use of face masks on school property.

Duncanville ISD continues to see a decrease in the number of active COVID-19 cases reported in our schools. We believe the continuous reduction in numbers is due to the consistency of staff, parents and students in following the health and safety protocols and the increase of people receiving the COVID-19 vaccination.

As we comply with the governor’s order, we encourage our community to continue taking steps to protect yourself and others in the community. In addition to strongly encouraging the use of face masks, we will also share COVID-19 vaccination opportunities and look for ways to partner with vaccination clinics.

I appreciate your patience and support as we work together through the final weeks of this school year and finish strong. Our shared commitment shows me why #WeAreDville.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc Smith

Superintendent of Schools
