Message from the Superintendent – New COVID-19 Cases dashboard

Duncanville ISD families,

We are dedicated to making 2020-2021 a successful and safe school year. From providing personal protective equipment to the safety requirements outlined in our School Reopening Plan, every decision is focused on the safety of our students and staff. We are also committed to providing thorough communication and transparency.

Today we launched a webpage to display the current active COVID-19 cases in the school district to provide accurate information to all of our stakeholders.

The webpage includes the total number of students and staff currently with lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. It also shows the total number of active cases at each campus and the district office. This information will be updated each school day.

View the active COVID-19 webpage here.

When a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 case is reported in the district, contact tracing is conducted to identify the individual or individuals who encountered that person. Based on the level of interaction, those people receive a notification from the district with directions on whether they need to self-quarantine or monitor their symptoms. An additional notification is sent to the campus to inform employees and families that there has been a positive COVID-19 case at that location.

The district’s custodial teams are included in the early stages of the notification process to ensure the facilities are thoroughly cleaned anytime a COVID-19 case is reported. For privacy reasons, none of these notifications identify the person who has tested positive.

To read more and view a flow chart outlining the district’s notification process, go to the School Reopening Plan/Self-Reporting for Students & Staff.

As I visit campuses and attend trainings, I see people following the safety guidelines by wearing a face covering, social distancing and using the personal protective equipment purchased by the school district. Thank you, and let’s continue doing our part. We are in this together.

Sincerely,
Dr. Marc Smith
Superintendent of Schools
