MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT: Winter Weather Closings - Tuesday, Feb. 16 and Wednesday, Feb. 17
Winter weather: school canceled Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 16 -17)

Duncanville ISD family,

I hope you are staying warm and safe. The winter weather we are experiencing includes snow and ice that continue to impact our roadways and historic freezing temperatures causing power outages for many families and staff.

For your safety, Duncanville ISD has canceled school for Tuesday and Wednesday.  There will be no in-person learning or virtual learning, and extracurricular activities will be canceled. Stay tuned to district communication platforms for day-to-day decisions as we continue to see extreme winter weather..

Today was a student holiday with district staff scheduled to participate in Professional Development training virtually from home. However, extensive power outages made live virtual training impossible. I anticipate we will see the same with attempts to conduct virtual learning for students on the state’s strained power grid.

With these necessary closures, the school district has used the bad weather day built into the current academic calendar and we will likely need to add instructional days to the end of the school year. The additional school days will ensure we meet the required student instruction time required each school year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marc Smith
