Convocation 2022
Convocation 2022
Duncanville ISD kicked off the 2022-2023 School year with convocation. The first convocation since the start of the 2020-2021 school year was in-person, and all departments gathered together for the back-to-school rally. This year's theme D'Ville All In, could be found everywhere, from decorations to the faculty and staff shirts.
And this convocation was not like past celebrations. This year's back-to-school rally was a celebration with a twist. Duncanville High School's marching band and the accompanying High-Steppers kicked off this event, coming through the basketball tunnel and parting to allow the cheerleaders to come forward. The cheer team escorted district departments and schools onto the court. Once every department was out on the floor, the cheerleaders moved on to hyping up the crowd to get ready for each group's call-out!
Each department and school showed panther pride by dancing and performing routines to their chosen hype song. The crowd hyped up each group.
Once each section was seated, the MCs, Myronda Mays, Secondary District Teacher of the Year, and Alec Hawkins, one of this year's Spirit of Champion winners, gave the order of ceremony and prizes to the audience. Several prizes were given away to faculty and staff, from mini-fridges to five hundred dollars in gift cards.
The celebration ended with viral comedian Eddie B of "What Teachers Really Say" fame on the stage. A former teacher, Eddie B, makes jokes about the profession. Teasing about dealing with students, parents, and daily duties much to the audience's satisfaction.
