Duncanville ISD Elementary Choice Programs

All current Duncanville ISD students zoned to attend the elementary schools listed below will automatically be enrolled in the campus’ choice program. All other students who live within district boundaries are eligible to apply. Admission to students who reside outside Duncanville ISD boundaries will be offered, but only after all resident applicants have been placed. Students will be selected through a computerized lottery.

Charles Acton Leadership Academy: The Leadership Academy at Acton Elementary will teach leadership and life skills to students. The culture of student empowerment is based on the idea that every child can be a leader. The "Leader in Me" paradigm shows that every child is capable and a leader. Content from "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is a critical component of the leadership academy. The 7 Habits synthesizes universal, timeless principles of personal and interpersonal effectiveness, i.e., responsibility, vision, integrity, teamwork, collaboration, and renewal.

Alexander Elementary Collegiate Exploratory Academy: The Collegiate Exploratory Academy at Alexander Elementary focuses on aiding students to excel academically, develop their leadership and advocacy skills, and explore college and career options. The Academy model embraces and merges the AVID and Leader in Me frameworks.

Central Elementary Digital Media and Performing Arts Academy: The Digital Media and Performing Arts Academy at Central Elementary will focus on providing students exposure and skills applicable to the arts and digital media. The Academy will promote creative thinking, problem-solving, self-expression, and risk-taking with an underlying primary purpose of helping students grow academically, socially, and artistically.

Hastings Elementary STEM Academy: The STEM Academy at Hastings Elementary School is designed to give students hands-on learning experiences that challenge them to think critically, value mistakes, and learn from them. The program encourages experimentation, fosters ingenuity and creativity, and emphasizes knowledge application and technology use.

Merrifield Elementary - Civic Duty and Leadership: The Civic Duty and Service Leadership Program at Merrifield Elementary School inspires scholars to become Civic Minded Leaders by:

  • Developing leadership skills inside and outside the classroom.
  • Equipping scholars with problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Engaging academic practices and extracurricular activities.
  • Creating confident scholars who are independent thinkers prepared to take on leadership roles in their futures. 

Fairmeadows Elementary - Entrepreneurship: The Entrepreneurship Program at Fairmeadows Elementary school focuses on developing real-world skills that will help scholars to lead exceptional lives in a rapidly changing world. 

Scholars learn to: 

  • Understand the product development cycle.
  • Develop their own unique business proposals and deliver multiple pitch presentations.
  • Creatively solve complex problems and artfully navigate ambiguity. 

Scholars will be empowered with the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that will serve them regardless of their career paths. 

Bilhartz Elementary - Career Exploration: The Career Exploration Program at Bilhartz Elementary School immerses scholars in a comprehensive career exploration environment designed to help scholars discover their interests through relevant hands-on projects across all career pathways. scholars in this program will complete a variety of career activities designed to help them set career goals so they can take steps to make their aspirations a reality. 

Hyman Elementary - Mass Communications: The Mass Communications Program at Hyman Elementary focuses on developing scholars’ verbal and written communication skills to be active leaders in the 21st-century global society. Scholars will participate in rigorous academic and extracurricular activities that refine their ability to critically analyze perspectives in their community and develop media that impact the world around them. The program will drive scholars to become self-directed learners that apply their knowledge and skills to boost their intellectual capacity and guide their future success.

Smith Elementary - Environmental Science

The Environmental Science Program at Smith Elementary School incorporates science and environmental influences through real-world applications. The program will develop the foundation of scientific inquiry and discovery in scholars to help protect and sustain our environment today and for future generations. Scholars will have the opportunity to: 

  • Collaborate.

  • Increase creativity.

  • Build leadership skills.

  • Use problem-solving/critical thinking skills.

  • Awaken global environmental awareness.
