Mr. Kelley R. Steinbring
Currently I am in my 8th year with Duncanville ISD. I spent the first 5 years of my teaching career at Reed Middle School where I taught technology applications. I currently teach all (7) of the principles of audio/ video classes at the high school and one video game design course. In addition to teaching at Duncanville high school I also teach a graphic design course at Tarrant County Community College. Before my teaching career I spent over a decade in the industry where I worked as an accomplished graphic artist, graphic designer, web designer & developer.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Al Collins College in Visual Communication and my Master of Education degree from Strayer University where I specialized in technology education. I have a shared passion for the field of visual communication as well as teaching and learning. I have a firm grasp on the effort it takes to earn an education I believe, it is privilege not a right. This translates to a desire to see each student that walks through my door become successful in whatever they endeavor to do but it takes effort. I believe each student needs to find their passion and pursue it with intention and rigor. I also believe great achievement is at a students finger tips if they are passionate about it.
In my time at the high school I have worked to establish a firm foundation on the curriculum and instruction that is brought to this course and back that instruction with industry leading expertise. I grew up in south Texas and currently reside in Grand Prairie. I am a proud husband to Cara Steinbring, my daughters Kaylee and Kiersten and son Colton.

Students should come to class prepared to learn and be productive daily, they should treat others as they would like to be treated. Turn-in all assignments and projects on time, use care when using equipment and take pride in their work. Actively participate in class and treat yourself, the instructors and all students with respect.
This course will introduce students to careers in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communications career cluster. Students will develop an understanding of various career opportunities in this cluster and the knowl- edge, skills and educational requirements for those careers.

- Identify and understand the basic theory in Audio/Video Production, Photography, Graphic Design, Video Game Design and Fashion Design.
- Understand and apply the phases of production from brainstorming to distribution.
- Understand a basic overview of each career cluster offered in Arts/AV.
COURSE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE:
Audio/Video Technology & Communications is a yearlong class made up of classroom and lab/production work. Students will be introduced to various video, audio, and graphic editing platforms.

AREAS OF STUDY:
Professional Communication: Professionalism, Copyright, Leadership, Conflict Management, Communication and Building a Resume and Cover letter.
Graphic Design: Elements of Art and Principles of Design as it applies careers in A/V Tech career cluster, Ba- sics of Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Photoshop.
Video Production: Film History, Advanced Video Theory & Story Telling, Script Writing, Storyboarding, and Production and Editing.
Audio/Radio Production: Radio History, Script Writing, Script Marking, Vocal Recording, Foley Sound, Ad- vanced Editing, Music production, DJ production.
All grading will be updated weekly, and every (3) weeks with progress reports sent out to parents for review. In the 9 week period, there will be at least (6) major grades, (6) professional ethics grades and at least (6) daily. Professional Ethics* is a large part of the course. Students are expected to dress act in a professional manor as well as take part in all class projects. Grades are broken down according to percentages adding up to 100% for the semester.
PROJECTS & TESTS:
40% Class/daily work and Professional Ethics* = 60 %*( grades based on observation of teamwork, discipline, dependability, creativity.)
MAKEUP/LATE WORK/TEST RETAKE POLICY:
When a student has missed a class due to an excused absence, that student will have as many class periods as missed to turn in missed classwork. It is the students’ responsibility to collect missed assignments and make sure their work is turned in. Missing a single class could put you behind greatly, for that reason this class is completely accessible online through schoology.com. However, it is imperative to attend and participate in every class to be successful.
1. Late Work If the assignment is turned in 24 hours after the due date there will be no penalty. (I.e. The as- signment is due Tuesday at the beginning of 2nd block but isn’t turned in until Wednesday at the beginning of 5th block this would result in a zero late penalty.)
2. If the assignment is turned in at any time during the next class period, the penalty will be a 10 point deduction from the grade the student earned. (I.E. The assignment is due Tuesday at the beginning of 2nd block but isn’t turned in until Thursday at the beginning of 2nd block. This would result in a 10 point deduc- tion. Therefore if the student made a 100 on the assignment, the grade that would be entered into the grade book would be a 90.)
3. After the first 10 point deduction there will be a five point deduction per school day until the assignment is turned in. (I.E. The assignment is due Tuesday at the beginning of 2nd block but isn’t turned in until Wednesday of the following week. This assignment would be assessed a late penalty of 35 points. That is 10 points for following Thursday, plus 5 points each for Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.)
4. Late assignments will not be accepted once the maximum score a student could receive would be below a 50.
5. Late assignments will not be accepted once the grading period for each nine weeks has closed.
1. Students who attend tutoring will be able to earn back any late penalties on assignments if they work on the assignment in tutoring and turn it in before leaving. However, the maximum late penalty points they can earn back will be no more than 25 points.
2. Students who have an assignment that is a 50 or below, will be allowed to correct their work and resubmit it but they will need to be responsible and notify me in schoology.com so I know to go back and grade the revised work. Students who do not pass an assignment will be counseled with by the teacher. The teacher will document that the student was provided the above information on how to raise their grade. Assignment grades from the prior nine week grading period cannot be resubmitted!
3. Students who are not passing at the end of each 3 and 6 week period: if a student is in jeopardy of failing or is failing during this time frame the parent will be notified and the student is expected to attend tutorial sessions or make up their grades on their own.
UIL ELIGIBILITY (“NO PASS/NO PLAY”):
Semester grades are computed by averaging the numerical grades recorded for each of the three six week reporting periods.
Each six week grading period will stand alone for eligibility purposes.
A student who is declared academically ineligible after a six week grading period will be able to regain eligibility if all of the student’s grade averages are 70% or higher at the subsequent 3 week grade reporting period.
IMPORTANT LAB EXPECTATIONS:All students are expected to be in class on time and ready to work when the bell rings. Attendance is EXTREME- LY important due to work that must be completed in class/lab. Additionally, project work is done on a team basis and everyone is needed to complete production. Students are expected to stay in class for the full class period. Students have one restroom pass a week. There is no food or drinks allowed in the computer lab, edit bays, or the control room. NO EXCEPTIONS! Cell phones should remain put up and will be used at specific times during the class when deemed appropriate by the teacher.Professional ethics is a big part of what we do. Students begin each week with an extra grade of 100 for profes- sionalism, however you may lose points based on the following but not limited to:
Disrespect of people, equipment, or furniture
Not staying on task
Not cleaning up after yourself
Sleeping in class
Violation of school policy- dress code, leaving campus etc.
If a student chooses to disregard class policies, the following steps will be taken:
