I am Monica Smith, and I am both honored and humbled to serve as the instructional leader for Kennemer Middle School. I am excited to work with the dynamic staff, parents and community members. More importantly, I look forward to working with our students and moving them to heights unimagined.
I come to Kennemer with several years of experience in the education field. I began my career in 1994 as a Math teacher in Dallas ISD. I later became a counselor at the elementary level before becoming a high school counselor. After 6 years as a counselor, I moved into campus administration as a dean of students, assistant principal, Pre-K-12 Math Curriculum Supervisor and associate principal. My philosophy of leadership in public schools involves three basic principles; I must be an advocate for all students, a facilitator of the teaching and learning process and a “servant” to ensure the needs of the entire school community are being met. While it will look different for all students, my goal for the campus is simple: Success for all students.
Throughout my educational journey, I have acquired valuable experience as an instructional leader. I have worked directly with teachers, students, staff, parents, and other community stakeholders from multiple communities. Those experiences have allowed me to enhance and build upon the skills I already have to be an effective administrator. In collaboration with the staff at Kennemer, I will continue to make decisions that are best for students to ensure student success.
I am truly looking forward to this upcoming year and accomplishing the goals we set together. A few of my goals include: to ensure that our students are authentically engaged in the learning process, actively involved in extracurricular and co-curricular activities in an environment where the students are safe. In short, we will build on the foundation that has been set and move forward to achieve even greater goals. By working collaboratively with the Kennemer Leadership Team, SBDM, entire staff at Kennemer, and parents, we will become the model school for Duncanville ISD. Together we will continue to provide outstanding educational opportunities and academic excellence for all of our students. On a personal note, I have been married for 22 years and have two beautiful children who are attending Prairie View A&M University. Please feel free to contact me via email at Monica.email@example.com or feel free to stop by to introduce yourself at any time as my door is always open. I look forward to meeting you soon.
