Based on the unofficial election results released Saturday night, the Duncanville ISD Tax Ratification Election, or Penny Swap, was approved by voters with 1167 votes in favor and 808 against.
Duncanville ISD residents let their voices be heard through the power of the vote.
“Thank you to everyone who went to the polls and cast a ballot in this election,” said Duncanville ISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith. “School financing can be confusing; so each voter had to make a choice to learn about this election and how it could finance valuable school programs and student needs.”
Dr. Smith said, “I recognize that when it comes to money, specifically taxes and our children, these are emotional matters. Still, through this election, we were able to have a public discourse that was professional and productive. Thank you for your commitment to Duncanville ISD and your trust.”
Next steps include reviewing the election results. Dallas County Elections officials provide the unofficial voting results on election day. The official results will be canvassed by the Board of Trustees on Thursday, Sept. 13.
Since the board of trustees already approved the reduction in the Debt Service tax rate by $0.13, the Penny Swap became official with voter approval. The additional school funding of approximately $5.2 million will be provided in the current school year.
