Duncanville ISD’s annual district-wide Geography Bee brought the top participants from 15 campuses to Duncanville High School to compete for first place.
Brian Rios, a seventh grade student at Reed Middle school, earned first place. John Matthews, an eighth grade student at Byrd Middle School, earned second place. This is John’s second bee win. He took first place at the district-wide Spelling Bee on Jan. 14. Kenneth Sisk, a fifth grade student at Hardin Intermediate, earned third place.
To qualify for the district-wide Geography Bee, all intermediate and middle schools hold campus contests to identify campus winners to compete in the district bee. Winners from each campus also have the opportunity to take a qualifying test for a chance to compete in the National Geographic Geo Bee. Three district students have taken the test, and will be notified on March 2 whether they qualified.
