Board Names Dr. Marc Smith Lone Finalist in Search for New Superintendent.
Tonight, Duncanville Independent School District’s Board of Trustees named Dr. Marc Smith the lone finalist in their search for a new superintendent. Dr. Smith is currently the superintendent in Marshall Independent School District, where he has been their top leader since March 2012.
After announcing Dr. Smith as the finalist, state law requires a 21-day waiting period before a contract can be issued.
With Dr. Smith at the helm, Marshall ISD has achieved a “Met Standard” accountability rating the past two years from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). In May 2015, Dr. Smith led Marshall ISD through a successful $109.210 million bond election project, the first successful bond election for the school district in nearly 30 years.
Prior to Marshall ISD, Dr. Smith served as Assistant Superintendent for Fort Bend Independent School District, the seventh largest school district in Texas. Dr. Smith’s education includes a doctorate degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston, and a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Prairie View A&M University. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Performance from Texas Southern University.
