1991 Boys Basketball Champions Recognized


The 1991 Duncanville boys basketball team was recognized at this year’s UIL basketball tournament for their historic season that culminated with a state championship. The 1991 Duncanville Panthers basketball team completed the season with 37 wins and 2 losses. After advancing to state, the Panthers dominated the Final Four tournament that year. The 1991 team won the semifinal and final game of the tournament by 27 or more points, beating out Galena Park Northshore and San Antonio Jay for the state title.

At the direction of Head Coach Phil McNeely, the Panthers were victorious. On the court, 7’2” center Greg Ostertag was a force to be reckoned with. In the championship game, Ostertag left the game in the fourth quarter with 35 points. The entire San Antonio team had scored just 33 team points. After graduation, Ostertag played for Kansas University and for nine years in the NBA. Ten additional players filled the roster for the team’s 37-2 season.
