Ready. Set. Register for the Third Annual Heart of Duncanville 5K

Heart of Duncanville 5K
For the third consecutive year, Ben Franklin Apothecary and the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation are hosting the Heart of Duncanville 5K run/walk. All proceeds from the race benefit the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation, which in turn supports the district’s teachers and students. On Saturday, October 8, the Heart of Duncanville 5K is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Ben Franklin Apothecary, located at 302 N. Main Street, Duncanville. The scenic course route will take runners and walkers down Main Street, through Lakeside Park and several of Duncanville’s historic neighborhoods.

The event will be chip-timed, and all pre-registered participants will receive a t-shirt designed by Duncanville High School students. Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in each age group. The top overall male and female winners, along with the top male and female master’s winners (participants over 40 years old) will receive a $50 Luke’s Locker gift card. After the race, runners can enjoy a concert from the “Shane Bell Band” and free giveaways.

Duncanville ISD employees are encouraged to participate in the race. The school with the highest number of staff, student and parent participation will receive a catered lunch from Kitchen’s Deli. A Spirit award will be given to the best dressed school, and the Heart award will be presented to a staff member who goes above and beyond to make the race a success.

Smith Elementary School Assistant Principal Tiffany Littlejohn received the Heart award at last year’s race. She was captain of the Smith Elementary team and started recruiting team members early for the race. Ms. Littlejohn organized and planned a series of announcements and got Smith’s staff, students and parents excited for the race.

“I have always believed in supporting causes that support our students,” Littlejohn said. “The Heart of Duncanville 5K is a wonderful opportunity to go beyond the walls of the school building for a time of fun and fellowship, for the purpose of supporting programs and projects that enhance the quality of education.”

If you’d like to participate this this year’s race, you can register online for the race here, or in person at Ben Franklin Apothecary. For more information, contact race director Kasey Cheshier at or 972-298-1147.
