Duncanville ISD Student Photographer Named Best in Nation

Cynthia Rangel's First Place photo

A Duncanville High School student was named Best Sports Photographer in the nation by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) in its 2016 competition.

Cynthia Rangel’s photograph in the Sports Reaction category took first place from an original field of approximately 300 photographs entered nationwide.

“This is a very prestigious accomplishment for our program as there are hundreds of schools across the country that enter this contest,” said Panther Prints sponsor James Rich. “To be selected as a top ten finalist and then a first place winner is an awesome representation of what we do here at Duncanville with our Panther Productions team.”

Rangel also took fifth place in the Sports Action category. Both of her photographs were taken while following the National and State Championship Duncanville Pantherettes girls’ basketball season in 2016.

Rangel graduated from DHS and is now attending Abilene Christian University where she is a photographer on the college newspaper staff.

DHS senior Alexis Rosebrock took ninth place in the News Photo category.

NSPA is a national community of scholastic journalism advisers and students.
