Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees Meeting Summary

 Every month the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees convenes a regular meeting to publicly address the business of the school district. Community members and business partners are encouraged to attend and participate. There is a public speaking section during every meeting that provides an opportunity for anyone to share positive feedback or concerns. However, the board is unable to take action on any item that is not already included on the meeting’s agenda.

 

Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Duncanville ISD Education Plaza (710 S. Cedar Ridge Drive). A highlight of board decisions at this month’s meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017, included:

 

Budget Workshop Details Proposed Pay Increases

 

Budget Graphic At a Special Board Meeting on Monday, June 26, the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to set the 2017-2018 budget. In preparation for that process, the Board hosted a budget workshop last night to discuss planning for the 2017-2018 school year. View the budget workshop presentation here. Highlights from the workshop are listed below. 

 

•          Starting new teacher pay scale increase from $50,000 to $51,000

•          Current teachers and nurses receive a $1,500 pay increase, which is a 3 percent increase calculated at the midpoint of the teacher pay scale

•          General pay increase of 3 percent to all other employees calculated at the midpoint of the employee’s pay scale

•          Increase employer’s healthcare contribution from $245 to $255

•          Propose a balanced budget

New, Returning Board Members Take Oath of Office

During last night's meeting, the Board of Trustees elected new officers, selecting Renee McNeely to serve as Board President, Janice Savage-Martin as Vice President and Carla Fahey as Secretary for the 2017-2018 school year. 
 

Returning board member, Ms. McNeely, and newcomer, Cassandra Phillips, were both administered the Oath of Office. Ms. Phillips received 53.37 percent of the votes in the May election, and will serve as a Trustee in Place 5. Mrs. McNeely, who represents Place 4, ran unopposed. Both board members were elected to a three year term, ending in 2020.

Trustees received an update on Duncanville ISD’s 2014 Bond Program.

Jan Arrington, Chief Financial Officer, presented the monthly finance and budget update.

Duncanville ISD Education Foundation Executive Director, Jim Richardson, presented the Foundation’s quarterly report.
