The Reed Middle School Symphonic I Band, under the direction of Michelle Hanegan, earned a Division I rating in concert and in sight reading on April 24 at the Region 20 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest at Red Oak High School.

From a field of 26 bands, Reed Middle School Symphonic I was one of just five who received Division I ratings from all six judges.

The competition is judged against a standard, rather than against other bands, and uses a grading system of Division I (superior) through Division 5 (poor).

The Symphonic II Band under the direction of Pedro Maldonado earned a Division I rating in sight reading.

The Reed Band also competed in the Beach Within Reach Band Contest in late April.

Symphonic I again received Division I ratings from all judges who adjudicated their performance.

Judges for all of the competitions were UIL award-winning band directors or retired directors from across Texas.
