Message from Superintendent: Moment of Silence & School Safety
Duncanville ISD family,
I am saddened that we are facing a day where we must discuss another heartbreaking school shooting. On Friday, we learned about the deadly tragedy at Santa Fe High School in Galveston County, Texas.
Because of who you are and what you do, I know their grief strikes a chord with you. Today, our campuses will hold a moment of silence to recognize those who died and the survivors. Your principal will lead the effort and communicate the details.
As we close out the school year, I want to remind you that safety – for employees and our students – continues to be a priority. We are here to educate students, but that does not happen if our schools are not safe.
As you may know, we are currently in the process of developing a Duncanville ISD Police Department. The police chief position has been posted and we’ve seen applications from some quality candidates. Until the police chief is hired and can begin building our school police department, we will continue contracting with Mansfield ISD police using our current school resources officers.
Finally, one of our most valued safety resources is our employees, students and families. We all must encourage students and our peers to report any safety concerns. Each report is taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated.
Thank you for being a constant source of calm and reason in what could be a tumultuous time.
